It was the perfect weekend for a fairytale story as PGA TOUR rookie Jake Knapp wowed on the Vidanta Vallarta Course and took the top prize.
For the third year in a row, Mexico’s biggest sporting event brought the PGA TOUR’s hottest players to the scenic greens of the Vidanta Vallarta Course at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta for a weekend of unforgettable golf. From February 22nd – 25th, the PGA TOUR Mexico Open at Vidanta offered a thrilling competition for 132 pros, filled with incredible moments showcased in an incomparable setting.
The biggest story from this year’s tournament was the crowning of a new champion out of a PGA TOUR rookie, American Jake Knapp. Over the four days, Knapp demonstrated a cool determination despite hitting a variety of challenges, including facing the close competition of Finnish player Sami Valimaki. But, in the end, Knapp completed four rounds with 265 strokes, finishing 19 under par.
Additional highlights include Rafael Campos making a hole-in-one on the Vidanta Vallarta’s incredibly trying 17th hole, a 205-yard Par 3—his first ace in 58 PGA TOUR events. Fans were also incredibly excited to see last year’s PGA TOUR Mexico Open at Vidanta winner Tony Finau come back to the course. Finau wasn’t just thrilled to return to the tournament—he and his whole family were beside themselves to enjoy another stay at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta.
“Vidanta is a pretty magical spot! Our family is really falling in love with this place,” Finau said at the pre-tournament press conference. “We’re really happy to be back!”
Many of the players, caddies, and tournament attendees enjoyed an exceptional weekend at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta, taking advantage of time away from the course to luxuriate around the resort’s pristine pools or explore its 40+ gourmet restaurants and bars for some much-deserved post-play relaxation. Guests also channeled the sporting spirit, filling all available tee times at the resort’s other courses, the Nayar Course and the family-friendly Lakes Course.
