Behind the Velvet Rope at the Premios Platino 2018

29 May, 2018 Written by Digital

Mexico celebrated arts and entertainment by playing host to this year’s Premios Platino, the world’s biggest awards ceremony honoring Spanish-language film.

The big event took place on April 29 at the Gran Tlachco Theater in Riviera Maya, with the famous charming actor Eugenio Derbez as host of the ceremony. The evening was filled with awards recognizing the exceptional work of those shining stars who have contributed so greatly to Hispanic entertainment over the past year, but it was Vidanta who kicked off the Premios Platino weekend with a party—and an award ceremony—of its own.

As one of the Premios Platino’s main sponsors, Vidanta was excited to welcome attendees to the beautiful Yucatán Peninsula. To celebrate the occasion, Vidanta Riviera Maya hosted an exclusive showing of Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ, complete with red carpet arrival, private performance for the award show’s nominees, and a spectacular after party. Vidanta also honored the Premios Platino with a special award for promoting Mexican culture, supporting the entertainment industry within the country, and for choosing Riviera Maya to host the event. Enrique Cerezo, executive president of the Premios Platino and president of the Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de los Productores Audiovisuales (EGEDA), received the award from Norma Preciado, Director of Marketing and Lifestyle of Grupo Vidanta.

A myriad of the world’s brightest stars came out to celebrate at the Cirque du Soleil Theater, including Joaquim De Almeida, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Tini Stoessel, Asier Etxeandia, and Claudia Álvarez, as well as various notable directors, writers, and musicians. For many, the viewing of JOYÀ was a crystallization of what the Premios Platino stand for—art that recognizes the tradition, innovation, and cultural depth that the communities throughout the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America, and the Caribbean are so proud to display. The crowd was then treated to late-night party on the deck of Nektar restaurant, complete with drinks, dancing, and a fantastic live DJ.

It was an unforgettable and glamorous evening, and the perfect prelude to Ibero-American cinema’s biggest night. For Vidanta, it was another opportunity to commemorate all that Mexico contributes to arts and culture enjoyed the world over.
