Great Heights: The Ameca Bridge

As any visitor to Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta can attest, the resort boasts astounding architecture around every turn. But nothing compares to the drama of our most recent addition: the Ameca Bridge.

When the team at Vidanta Golf began planning the development of their next golf course, they knew—in true Vidanta fashion—that it had to create a truly unforgettable experience. So not only did they get one of the best course designers in the world to create it, they also decided to build the world’s longest golf suspension bridge in order to get to it.

The Ameca Bridge is the access point to the new Norman Signature Golf Course and Nayar Golf Course at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta. That means that every round you play there begins with a trip across the 560-foot- long bridge, which extends from one bank of the Ameca River to the next. The bridge is only about 6-feet wide, allowing only one golf cart to pass at a time. But the view is simply stunning and perfectly showcases the dusky peaks of the Sierra Madre Mountains, the lush river gully, and where the river terminates in the expansive Banderas Bay.

For inspiration, the architects at Vidanta and engineers at Ecoprojects looked to the Golden Gate Bridge, perhaps the most iconic bridge in the world. The Ameca Bridge displays the same elegant slope to its supports, though boasts a more natural hue of mahogany brown than its famous orange forbearer. And in the evening, it’s illuminated with LED reflectors, making for quite the sight!
