Discover our Halotherapy cabins at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta and Vidanta Riviera Maya.
Halo is the Greek prefix meaning salt. Halotherapy is a wellness treatment based on inhaling and being in contact with the purest salts, and it’s available to you at our spas. Let’s learn more about this amazing option for your next vacation.
The Origins of Halotherapy
Salt therapy originated in Eastern European countries in the 1800s, where research showed that salty air in mines and caves was extremely helpful to people’s lung health. Over time, these sites became widely popular destinations for anyone seeking well-being. And so, speleotherapy was born—a form known nowadays as “Passive” salt therapy.
How does it work?
Today, salt rooms or cabins replicate those ancient conditions with the help of a halogenerator, which grinds salt into microscopic particles and distributes them into the air. This is called Halotherapy or “Active” salt therapy, according to the Salt Therapy Association.
Halotherapy’s Benefits
During your cabin session, the salt’s antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties open your airways to breathe easier and clear your skin. The concentrated oxygen levels boost your immune system. And the negative ionization purifies the air, increases oxygenation, and boosts your metabolism.
Halotherapy at Spatium and The Spa at The Estates.
At Vidanta, our Active Halotherapy cabins are state-of-the-art facilities. Each of their features has a specific purpose, as explained by Alvaro Davila Orrante, head of The Spa at The Estates in Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta:
• The retro-lit walls of Himalayan salt blocks and dimmed light create a serene, peaceful atmosphere.
• The floors covered with salt pebbles also aid in foot reflexology when walking.
• Comfortable, ergonomic Ayous wood lounge chairs are equipped with infrared heat radiators that you can control to relax your muscles while you lay.
• The cabin has discrete vents that disperse salt particles from a silent halogenerator creating a salty, ionized, and oxygen-saturated environment.
• A stimulating RGB-led light chromotherapy system with various adjustable programs in color and sequences complements the treatment.
When you visit Vidanta, Davila recommends combining halotherapy with the benefits of our wet spa facilities. “You can try the hot Jacuzzi tub, the cold plunge, and the sensations pool in that order before halotherapy. And, afterward, use the sauna or steam room and the Swiss or the sensations showers for complete renewal and relaxation.”
