Children’s Day: Writing a Better Future

Inspiring generations of happiness: this is Vidanta’s aim, and it’s about more than perfecting the vacation experience.

It’s building awareness of what happens beyond the resorts, on the land and in the communities that surround and support us. It’s also about taking those “generations” literally—by welcoming any opportunity to invest in the children to whom we entrust that future.

On May 2nd, Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta transformed from an elegant beachside resort destination to a collaborative, imaginative playspace, as employees across different departments dressed up in costume as their favorite storybook characters. All gathered for our annual Awaken Their Imagination (Despierta su Imaginación) book and toy drive—a yearly celebration of Children’s Day in Mexico.

Since 1925, Mexico’s El Día del Niño has been a yearly reminder to protect and empower future generations. “Children’s Day” is a little like Mother’s Day—a special expression of enthusiasm that really lasts all year long. At Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta, resort employees celebrate Children’s Day by collecting donations of educational books and toys to distribute to children in particularly vulnerable communities of Banderas Bay, Nayarit.

The Awaken Their Imagination campaign began in 2009 with the conviction that imagination, like education, is a crucial resource—and not just for kids. Not only do we get to help children discover the necessary tools for growth and inspiration; when we dress as characters for a day, we too tap into the furthest reaches of creative possibility. We recall a time when opening a book promised anything was possible.

Since the campaign’s inception, Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta’s employees have come together to amass and deliver over 3,800 educational toys and books to kids in Nayarit. And this is just the part we can count–the unquantifiable benefits of believing in one’s community, we can only imagine.

If you’re interested in learning more about seeing happiness at play in the communities surrounding the Vidanta resorts, we encourage you to take a tour of the Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation on your next trip to Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta. Simply ask your concierge for info upon your arrival.
