It’s been more than 25 years since Cirque du Soleil debuted O, a revolutionary and internationally acclaimed show centered around water, in residence at The Bellagio in Las Vegas. Today, Cirque du Soleil LUDÕ carries this incredible legacy forward as the first water-based show in Latin America while featuring many never-before-seen innovations. Now LUDÕ reigns as the most technologically advanced water-based production in the world.
Located atop Wonder Bay within the upcoming BON Luxury Theme Park Vidanta Vallarta-Nuevo Nayarit, LUDÕ takes place in a theater that was custom built specifically for this production. The theater, inspired by a lotus flower, soars 27 m (nearly 89 ft) high above the water and uses 3,500 tons of steel—half of what the Eiffel Tower contains. Audiences capture their first glimpse of this jaw-dropping structure as they glide overhead in the SkyDream Parks Gondola.
Once on the ground, guests travel through The Crater, an atmospheric entry point that sets the stage for what audiences are about to experience, complete with moody mist effects, smokeless flames, and state-of-the-art lighting and audio for maximum drama.
Inside the theater, towering aquarium walls surround a 360° aquatic stage. Tiered seating encircles the stage and there are only 696 seats in the entire house, meaning this is a more intimate experience in which everyone enjoys an excellent, unobstructed view of the action.
Before the show begins, guests can indulge in a chef-driven dinner that is integral to the overall experience. Each course represents a chapter in the journey to come, complete with a signature dessert inspired by the show’s protagonist, Ludovico.
The show is engineered to be fully immersive, complete with cutting-edge aquatic visual effects, lighting, and surround acoustics to make audiences feel like they have journeyed to an otherworldly underwater realm. The stage transforms like a machine, with a large tank that empties and fills within seconds, a platform that rises with no perceptible noise, and even a pool that up to two artists can occupy at the same time. The technical heart lies hidden below the stage, where water reserves, motors, filtration systems, and moving grids transport people and elements with an impressive efficiency.
Across the massive human aquarium that envelops the space, acrobatic artists and freediving specialists perform incredible feats while submerged. Artists are above you, around you, and beneath the water line—it’s a mesmerizing spectacle that must be seen to be believed.
