What We Can Learn from the Delia Morán Class of 2017

19 July, 2017 Written by Digital

July 13th, 2017, marked an incredibly exciting day at the Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation.

While it was a momentous occasion for both the class and their teachers, it was also a bittersweet one. Over the course of their four years at the foundation, many close bonds were forged. Some of the teachers even confessed that they learned just as much from this amazing class of students as their students learned from them.

Since 2013, this not-for-profit institute just down the road from Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta has provided extracurricular programs and services designed to complement public education to underprivileged children from Riviera Nayarit. Through the Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation, students ages 6 to 12 gain exposure to new activities and skills while learning lessons to supplement their schooling. Their curriculum includes computer class, theater and circus arts, swimming, rock climbing, English, and more. The facility also frequently partners with the Vidanta resorts to offer students unique opportunities like learning about agriculture by visiting Almaverde, Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta’s on-resort farm, and personal instruction from experts at Vidanta Golf.

In celebration of the class of 2017, we caught up with two of the graduating students, Sofia and Frida, to ask them a few questions about their time at the foundation, their aspirations for the future, and any tips or wisdom they may have for us.

The Vidanta Traveler (TVT): Congratulations on your graduation from the Delia Morán Vidanta Foundation. Now that it’s summer vacation, what are looking forward to?
Frida: I’m excited to buy my school supplies because I love decorating them before I go back to class. And I’m excited to sleep in!
Sofia: I’m excited for summer vacation because some boys I know will be there.

TVT: What school subjects are you the best at?
Frida: I’m very good at math.
Sofia: Aerial dance and natural science!

TVT: If you were to use your education and skills to start a business when you’re done with school, what would it be?
Frida: I would start a foundation for children just like this one so kids could get a good education without having to pay a lot.
Sofia: I would like to start a diving business.

TVT: What are your tips for dealing with something that’s difficult, whether it’s an assignment or trying something new?
Frida: I try hard and give it my all until I get tired. Then I get rest and come back the next day, ready to take it on.
Sofia: I try to figure it out and if I can’t do it on my own, then I ask for the help I need.

TVT: If you could help anyone in the world, who would you help?
Frida: I would like to help the poor and less fortunate. When I see people who don’t have much, it makes me want to cry. I feel the same way about homeless animals. I want to help them.
Sofia: I will always help my family because they love me so much and have always been there for me.
