Vidanta Riviera Maya is the first resort in Mexico and one of only 21 companies in the world to have received EarthCheck Master Certification for leadership in sustainability.
We’re so excited to announce that Vidanta Riviera Maya has been granted “Master Status”, the highest level of certification, by EarthCheck—the world’s leading authority on sustainability in the hospitality industry. This recognition was awarded to Vidanta Riviera Maya for 15 years of sustainability leadership and vigorous environmental efforts.
Since our founding in 1974, we’ve been dedicated to preserving Mexico’s natural beauty and taking care of our precious planet. That’s why we created Vidanta Verde—our comprehensive sustainability program implemented at all the Vidanta destinations. We work hard every day to hold ourselves accountable to strict green guidelines and vigorous sustainability efforts. We strive to ensure that we all have a greener tomorrow and a brighter future.
Vidanta Riviera Maya is an outstanding example of how we do right by the earth, consistently implementing strong sustainability practices, such as: conserving water and energy, protecting ecosystems, investing in renewable energy, reducing waste, and providing environmental education. Read on to learn about all the ways that this EarthCheck Master Certified resort is leading the way in sustainability.
Water and Energy
Water and energy are essential life resources that we take great measures to conserve and regenerate. For example, Vidanta Riviera Maya operates a water treatment center that reuses wastewater to irrigate the resort grounds and golf courses. Our other efforts include installing energy-saving laundry equipment and water-saving showerheads, switching to biodegradable cleaning products, and investing in solar panels to source renewable energy.
Ecosystems
We owe everything to Mexico’s natural beauty, and we believe that it’s our responsibility to give back in every way we can. Vidanta Riviera Maya has restored more than 93 acres of native vegetation, and in 2018 alone, grew over 16,000 native plant species in our on-site plant nursery. We also feature a protected sea turtle sanctuary, which released over 10,000 sea turtle hatchlings in 2019.
Waste
We’re very serious about taking on trash and cutting down on emissions. We’ve implemented a solid waste management program so that we can recycle inorganic waste (i.e. cardboard, metal scraps, cooking oil, electronics, among others) and allow organic waste to be composted. In 2018, we recycled more than 830 tons of trash!
Education
We know that when we work together, we can be greener together. We strive to increase environmental awareness by offering a wide variety of trainings, talks, and workshops for our business partners, guests, and employees to participate in. We encourage our staff and guests to save as much energy and water as possible throughout the day by implementing simple sustainable practices.
Together, we can make this planet greener and healthier for all. We encourage you to learn more about our ongoing sustainability efforts by visiting GrupoVidanta.com. And don’t forget to book your stay at one of the greenest resorts in the world by calling us at 1-800-292-9446 today!
